Communities First – Working to Improve Economic Inactivity

The Inquiry Panel met this week to hear about the work being carried out in Swansea by Communities First, in respect of economic inactivity.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              Caroline Carter, Community Regeneration Co-ordinator and Ryland Doyle, Cabinet Member for Target Areas, attended the meeting and explained how Communities First is making an appreciable impact on the areas where it operates, which are generally the poorest parts of the city.

Communities First is a Welsh Government funded programme, which aims to improve the living conditions and prospects for people in the most disadvantaged communities in Wales. In Swansea, these areas have been identified and valuable work is being carried out, to bring together service providers with local residents and community groups, to develop initiatives for the benefit of the community.

Panel members have arranged to visit the Action Resource Centre, Blaenymaes and The Job Club, Penlan, to witness first hand the work being carried out by Communities First in Swansea and give those using the centres the opportunity to have their say.
