Scrutiny Councillors from across the six local authorities will meet again at the end of September.  The purpose of the group is to help ensure the best educational outcomes for children in the Education Through Regional Working (ERW) region by supporting effective scrutiny to

  1. support consistent scrutiny across the six councils
  2. share scrutiny good practice
  3. encourage shared scrutiny approaches and avoid the duplication of scrutiny work
  4. provide critical and objective challenge to ERW on topics of interest as required
  5. contribute to the good and effective governance of ERW

Councillors on the 27 September will

  • share their individual scrutiny work programmes
  • discuss the Business Plan for the ERW region
  • look at the Estyn inspection outcome for ERW
  • discuss the framework for vulnerable learners and consider what works including how the Pupil Deprivation Grant is used across the region
  • receive an update on Alternative Learning Needs (ALN) reform.

The Councillor Group will then write a letter to the ERW Joint Committee feeding back their thoughts and recommendations arising from this meeting.

The papers will be available on our website at www.swansea.gov.uk/scrutinypublications from the 20 September.
