Scrutiny Councillors to look at Equalities in Swansea

Scrutiny Councillors in Swansea will carry out an inquiry into Equalities in Swansea.  This issue was raised as a focus for in depth scrutiny this year by Councillors at their Scrutiny Work Planning Conference in June 2018.  The Scrutiny Programme Committee have set up a Panel of Councillors to look specifically at the issue and they have suggested that the inquiry look at:

  • How well the Council is meeting requirements under the Equality Act 2010 (Public Sector Equality Duty for Wales) and objectives?
  • How effectively equalities are being embedded across the Council, and how this is being monitored and measured?
  • Examination of specific equalities issues like for example diversity of workforce, gender pay gap and engagement of different groups and access to services.

The Panel will now meet for the first time on 11 October where they will discuss and consider an overview of the subject area speaking to the relevant Cabinet Member and Head of Service.  They will then plan their piece of work, discussing who they would like to speak and what evidence they wish to gather.

The Agenda for this meeting can be found at this link

We’ll be blogging again as the inquiry progresses, so watch this space!
