New Schools Performance Scrutiny Panel

A new scrutiny performance panel to look at schools performance in Swansea will meet for the first time next week. 

The purpose of the Panel will be to provide ongoing challenge to schools performance to ensure that pupils are receiving high quality education, and to ensure that the authority is meeting its objectives in relation to school standards and pupil attainment.

This work is important because:

• Improving schools performance is a key corporate improvement objective
• Swansea has some of the highest performing schools in Wales but also some of the lowest
• The attainment gap between schools with high and low free school meals numbers is increasing
