Schools Performance Panel considers ‘Rewriting the Future’

1 inclusion

The Panel at its meeting on the 18 September will discuss the recently released Wales Government document ‘Rewriting the Future: raising ambition and attainment in welsh schools’.  The report highlights the vision to have high expectations for all learners, regardless of their socio-economic background, and ensure that they have an equal chance of achieving those expectations.

Many of the recommendations will have implications for schools and for local authorities in wales and the Panel have asked the Chief Education Officer to put together a short outline of how Swansea might address these.

Some of the recommendations include for example:

  • establish provision for, and promote take-up, of free breakfast, particularly for learners from deprived backgrounds in primary education
  • plan for effective transition from primary to secondary school
  • local authorities adopt a multi-agency approach to pool expertise with other agencies that addresses health, domestic and social welfare concerns of learners and their families
