The schools Performance Scrutiny Panel recently met to discuss and agree their work programme for the coming year. Prior to this meeting the Panel contacted Headteachers, fellow Councillors, the public and council officers asking ‘what they think are the key topics in education at the moment’ and ‘what they believe the panel should be concentrating on this year’.

Arising from this discussion some of the issues to be included on the work plan include:

  • Speaking to 4 schools across Swansea
  • Looking at the Education through Regional Working Business Plan
  • Tools and techniques for intervention (how effective are intervention programmes)
  • Looked after children educational performance and support
  • Quality of teaching and learning and consistency of teacher assessments
  • Free school meals pupil performance including data on how the pupil deprivation grant is spent by schools
  • Cluster working – effective networks and collaboration between schools

Councillors will now look to schedule this work into their monthly meetings over the coming year.   If you would like any further information on the Schools Scrutiny Performance Panel or in relation to Scrutiny more generally you can visit our web pages at www.swansea.gov.uk/scrutiny
