Scrutiny Councillors on the Education Performance Panel recently met with the Cabinet Member for Education Improvement, Learning and Skills and discussed the Regional Education Partnership.

The Panel were pleased to hear that the legal agreement for the new regional education partnership, Partneriaeth has been established with all three local authorities (Swansea, Carmarthenshire, and Pembrokeshire) agreeing it at their individual Cabinet Meetings this Autumn.

This legal agreement will now allow the Partnership to have a Joint Committee that can start to make decisions. The agreement also contains a strong governance structure which includes a Scrutiny Councillor Group.

Panel Members were informed that the previous regional education partnership, ERW still need to be wound down by closing down the accounts. The Director of Education explained that costs arising from the winding down of ERW will be borne by all original Local Authorities that were members of ERW.

The staffing structure should be in place by the end of January 2022, the Panel were informed that the size of the organisation has much reduced, and this will be reflected in staffing.
