What will the Schools Performance Scrutiny Panel look at this year?

1 inclusion

The Schools Performance Scrutiny Panel at their last meeting discussed their work programme for the coming year. The Panels brief is to provide ongoing challenge to schools performance to ensure that pupils in Swansea are receiving high quality education; and the authority is meeting its objectives in relation to improving school standards and pupil attainment.

Some of the issues they plan to look this year include, for example:

  • The advise and guidance given to schools and school governing bodies in relation to tackling poor performance of teachers and recruitment of senior staff within schools
  • Ensuring consistency in teacher and classroom assessments
  • Restorative Practice and its impact
  • How schools are using the Pupil Deprivation Grant

The Panel will also speak the Headteachers and Chair of Governors of at least three schools which will be identified shortly and be based upon their place in the Schools Support and Challenge Matrix.

The Panel agreed their work programme after evaluating their previous years work when they also agreed to make more use of case studies as examples of performance, to seek more insight from the public and to meet in a school setting.
